Tape dispenser and plant stand
December 31, 2025
Doing a bit of catch up here as I have not posted on the website in a while. I got spoiled with how easy it was on instagram, and was neglecting to add stuff here. These were from around May/June of 2023.
At the time, I had recently been gifted a little tiny laser engraver, and not long before that, a disc sander. So given those tools, of course the first thing that comes to mind is that I should make myself a dispenser for blue tape in the shop. Every shop has blue tape, and should have a dispenser to go with it. This is mine. The construction is 3/4” plywood, the bottom has the grippy side of an old mouse pad. The blade is part of a dull jigsaw blade. It works great, though I wish the tape stuck a little better to the blade as now and again it releases and the tape just sort of rolls up. The centers that the tape fits on are circles of plywood I shaped on the disc sander.
As for the plant stand, the genesis was quite simple. My wife asked me to make one for the deck. I set about rounding up some scrap wood - and a few extra ceramic tiles that I had. The construction is all basic pine, with a plywood top. Adhered to the plywood are the ceramic tiles and I used caulk between them instead of grout. So far, so good. On the bottoms of the legs, I also applied epoxy to keep them from wicking water. The legs are on a 45 degree angle to match some previous plant stands I had made for inside the house. All in all, a pretty quick project, and the plants seem to like it.
